I haven't seen any mention of the justification or lack thereof for the uplifts.

Like, are they uplifting any/all Maori babies? Or just the babies of mothers who have already had their children removed in the past for reasons that meet a legal threshold?

The way people are painting it on social media is that it's just Maori children being taken for absolutely no reason, and therefore it's racist. They aren't pointing to specific cases of unfairness or lack of justification, just uproar about children being taken. If this is the case, then fair point. If they're being sold to Angelina Jolie for her own personal Small World ride, of course it's shocking.

I understand it must be awful to have your child taken from you - but playing the Devil's Advocate, is it not also awful to be born into a violent/abusive/drug addicted household and lie around crying in an unchanged nappy, getting the odd punch in the head for crying from your Mum's latest fuck?

So is the uproar about babies being taken unjustifiably, or the old chestnut about Maori being able to have sovereignty over their people and they should be handed over to a marae instead of white foster parents?
