Just came from a meeting with our Vodafone account manager. According to him, Vodafone will not be tapping into the iPhone buzz anywhere globally. Apparently they are going down the new Blackberry 9000 path instead, which will use similar technology to the iPhone. They work fine on the Vodafone network, but they will never be supplying "network approved" devices to consumers.
of course things like this are always subject to change
