Previous attempts at regime change faced resistance because of the flow of information (both truthful, and propaganda-driven). More warnings given to Syria: "Stop using chemical weapons!", shut down Syria's ability to tell it's side of the story, maybe Al Qaeda can set off a dirty bomb, and the NATO can get the greenlight for their invasion force.
