A Dargaville man is undergoing surgery today after he was accidentally shot in the leg last night.
The 19-year-old and his 18-year-old friend took a firearm from a family member who was a fully licensed holder and went for a drive, about 11pm, when the gun accidentally went off in the vehicle.
The injured man was taken to Dargaville Hospital, before being transferred to Whangarei Hospital to undergo surgery today.
