Im in the same job that I left college for nearly 20 years back. Im a weather forecaster for MetService and never thought I would be with the company this long. It was one of those, "I have no idea what I wanted to do, but the money's good" sort of decisions when I took the job. I guess I can call it a career now huh
I attribute the staying power of the job for me, down to its continued changing role as a public service. From the government department it was when I joined to its current state as an SOE, to the inevitable private sector it is to become. I've seen the change in technology reduce staff numbers to more than half from when I first joined. The funniest thing I find with this job, is advancement in technology has'nt really increased forecasting accurancy at all, but efficency has ten fold.
