There's a substantial difference between a prediction and a guess. Some people are using the best models we have available, as understood before the pandemic became a priority. Not cheap. Which is why the institutions and organisations that produce these models are often targets for politicians looking to make budget cuts.
Others are cooking up stories to make them popular in their podcasts. Looking to make money of panicked people like DrTitus.
