That's what baffles me. I am struggling to believe our mutual acquaintance (who matched us up, and who runs a reputable consultancy) would not see this as anything but harm towards his business. Anyway, I need to have a chat with him and see what his arrangement was.
But yes, they did say early on that working with them would "get some serious consultancy projects on your resume." That, and one of the first things said was "You can trust me because [reasons]"
