Man with dog pushes elderly woman onto road

An elderly woman suffered minor injuries when she was pushed in front of traffic in Christchurch yesterday.

Police said the 77-year-old was walking along Colombo Street about 4.45pm when a man walking a Golden Labrador pushed her onto the road.

The woman fell and knocked her head, grazing her elbow and hurting her shoulder.

Three people saw the incident and stopped to help her.

The alleged assailant was described as in his thirties, with short fair hair and in light clothing. He was last seen running west along Brougham Street.

Police have solved the mystery of the man with a dog who was alleged to have pushed an elderly woman into the path of traffic in Christchurch yesterday.

Constable Alan Roberts said: "it appeared the woman had come into contact with a blind man and his dog".

He said the man was unaware that the woman fell over on Colombo St.

Yesterday police issued a statement saying the alleged offender was seen running away with his golden labrador after the woman was "pushed".

Police said the 77 year-old fell over, grazing her elbow and hurting her shoulder.

Today Mr Roberts described the incident as an "unfortunate accident and said there was no evidence of malice on anyone's behalf"
