GEORGIE PIE

Ok, so it goes like this. Me and Kidona have been talking about Georgie Pie lately and how it was the shit back in the day. We have heard through the grapevine that some supermarkets still sell the pies but, obviously, under a different name/brand. I mentioned foodtown but had no evidence to back that up.

Can anyone offer any feedback in regards to this?

Waldo 23rd June 2008 16:11

Those food town pies are very similar but are not the same....man you guys talk some shit

Mish 23rd June 2008 16:17

Wikipedia knows all...

Hmm, interesting. Cheers Mish.

Sheesh Wally, we knew you would post first for some reason.

Dweeb 23rd June 2008 16:28

I was chatting with someone who had been with progressive's for some years, and said that would make sense as prog's had the old oven's that georgie pie used.

I with great hope went to a couple foodtown's but did not find anything. If I recall they were under the signager range branding.

Fark, didnt; see the above post.

CCS 23rd June 2008 16:29

Yeah Waldo, so SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Whiplash 23rd June 2008 16:29

Forget Georgie pie - it'll never come back.

Just stick with Jesters pies. Mmmm! _b

Waldo 23rd June 2008 16:35

Food town 800metres from here sells these pies, that look like em....but dotn taste the same.....maybe they do, but my memory of old fatty substances has never been that great.

?>Superman 23rd June 2008 16:35

Had Jester's last year while on a business trip to Takapuna - all good, but needs a Wellington outlet :)

Mickey 23rd June 2008 16:42

I miss the dollar mince and cheese pies from GP. The ones from jesters are pretty good but they are made in those tiny pie makers like you can get at home. Need to be bigger.

Helious 23rd June 2008 16:46

<--- never had georgie pie

JP 23rd June 2008 16:59

When I was a teen I used to work at foodtown and fucking live off those bad boys. As the article said, they disappeared a fair while ago. The new ones i've seen are deff not the same. Can't speak for all food towns by any means though.

RIP GEORGIE PIE!

Toksin 23rd June 2008 17:07

*edit* n/m

BadNova 23rd June 2008 17:14

Jester's is fine, but it's not a patch on the glory that was Georgie Pie.

(although, their Pepper Steak pie is the shit when they have it...)

Just send him one as an email attachment, way easier and you won't burn your tongue as it will cool slightly through the interweb.

?>Superman 23rd June 2008 18:15

can you send me two?

its a nice night for a threesome.

The Edge 24th June 2008 00:40

Jester's = delicious and healthy.

Unfortunately the closest one to Wellington (and the South Island, for that matter) at this point in time is Palmerston North.

Evilmonkey 24th June 2008 11:11

Jesters pies are nice. But way too costly. It really makes me mad spending like $15 and still being hungry.

Man, my pie last night was disappointing. I had the mince and cheese, and boy, that was some bland mince.

[BT]Monza 24th June 2008 11:20

dreams are free....

I recently bought a "Bring back Georgie Pie" T-shirt, get lots of positive comments, mostly from randoms on the street.

That's the low-fat flavour (or lack thereof)

I remember when I could buy a pie the size of my face for thrupence! Everything is too expensive these days! That's why I wear the same brown cardigan I've had since 1953.

FTR helious only expanded his range of food when he was about 18 or something

Rocket 24th June 2008 15:56

God dam this thread makes me so dam hungry, mouth is watering just thinking bout gerogie pie, man we had it so good at that place. i gotta go get some wendies or something pronto

CCS 24th June 2008 15:57

Expanded... ? We're talking about Georgie Pie here, not fine cuisine! What was he eating before? Turnips and cornbread?

crocos 24th June 2008 15:58

Georgie Pie... I think I've maybe had it 6 times total, ever.

Mainly because the only Wellington-area one was in Newtown, and I was (while it was open) based out in Lower Hutt.

Was damn tasty though

cEvin 24th June 2008 16:05

crocos has a small tattoo of a mince and cheese pie hidden somewhere private

hint: right next to his pie.
