well said. i've trained many people at work (training takes between 3 and 5 days) and feel i have it nailed down pretty well. i start with some small talk (eg question them about previous employment) and from go i can tell how my training week is going to run. some people simply have a few nuts and bolts missing. one in maybe 12 people can pick things up without repeating myself but most people have to be told the same thing in 12 different flavours before they understand it. even when you ask them if they understood something they'll of course answer yes albeit with a blank face.

once you know get to know the person (their learning style - do they prefer things on paper? spoken to them? purely action?) things become much easier.

through all this i love training new people because i get so much more back out of it.
