Overwatch beta - who's in?
Hey, anyone in the Overwatch beta?
I can't help but feel that it's 7 or 8 years too late to jump onto the cel shaded team based FPS bandwagon. |
yeah but like.. blizzard.... could be good
also beta? want~ |
the giant pile of classes looks like it could be fun
|
hah, I got into the other one... battleborn.
|
I'm looking forward to this. I'm tired of TF2.

"Tracer hero for Heroes of the Storm. "
That's new! |
The only game I will ever pay more than $45 NZD for is HL3.
|
You'll probably be able to get it for less through g2a
|
Invite to over watch beta weekend
Yay |
played a few rounds...
no scoreboard and just feels hectic, didnt actually feel... fun mm |
I'm in the closed beta now, and boy it's a resource hog, hope you've got a good PC to play it on.
Game itself feels very much like TF2, and the characters are varied enough to keep things interesting for a wee while but man, the lag is unfortunately pretty bad, given that you're playing on NA servers. Modern FPS's just weren't meant for that sort of ping. |

Ohh so the going the console route , aka no dedicated/player owned servers...count me out. |

p2p servers are so unreliable and really add to a negative experience with the game a lot of the time. |
Overwatch just finished an open-ish closed beta weekend. Anyone had a play?

This is so frustrating tbh, I hope some company decides to shake this up and allow for hybrid options (like TF2) |
:D

Just realised it'd cost me about $80 NZD to purchase using AUD (available if your account is set to AU), or about $50 NZD to purchase using USD (available if your account is set to NZ).
Time to change my Battle.Net country to NZ! |
Where the hell do you get it for $50 _NZD_ ???

_oh_, but selecting the "normal" edition :-) |

FYI, Open Beta is live.
|
Played 4 hours worth on the "random hero" setting.
* Finally something to play other than TF2 * Matchmaking seemed pretty good, didn't care I didn't have a server browser. * I actually noticed getting "shot from behind a wall" which means I must have had a high ping :-/ * Ugh getting from respawn to the action is annoying (but same can be said for tf2) * Pretty. But parts of the animation and graphics are still stuck in the dark ages (models clip themselves, low poly count, no paralax mapping or ambient occulsion. What's the bet they use lightmaps like that did back in Quake). * Ugh, I'm not a floating hand gun, WHERE ARE MY FUCKING FEET?! * Tracer is sooooo much fun. zip - zip - zip, harass - zip - zip - punch - rewind, weeeee. * Fuck you blizzard, my account name is not my online handle! Let me change my handle. * oooh, stats porn. Yea, gonna preorder it I think. |
its ok, but im not blown away... i find it kind of annoyingly PC, in that you cant see scores etc except your own. i want to know who else did well and who didnt so that i can friend people who arent dogshit and play with them (same thing i do in cs)
might need more incentive for people to go healer as well because without a healer you get shit on pretty bad. balance is a bit off on some chars, pharah is kind of ridiculous, and some of the ultras need tuning. once leagues are incorporated itll be better though |
Its okay.... nothing amazing. Balance feels off. Lack of polish. I've been playing since yesterday and Im already bored of it. Be a good free2play game (and no doubt it was originally) but for 40USD, i'll skip till a sale, or maybe I just wont bother.
|
What are the off balance things about overwatch? I didn't feel like there was a god class when I played.
Also TB, why you get bored so quick? |
Lack of polish? Off balance? This game feels more polished and balanced in beta than the last 3 or 4 FPS games I've played post-release. (Titanfall, Destiny, The Division, MW3, to name a few)
|
those being released broken dont necessarily mean this one is well balanced/polished
but we're probably just cynics played PC beta earlier and PS4 beta this time (to make sure my potato of a PC wasnt ruining the experience) like.. i like it but it just feels too hectic still; maps too small for me maybe def reminds me of tf2 but 6v6 on a small map rather than the 8v8 on big maps that i prefered |
It'a awesome
I think the balance is pretty good considering 21 classes. Bastion needs a nerf with its long-range damage (in turret mode). Pharrah probably need a buff her rockets are pretty weak - especially direct hit. Apart from that pretty good In general the support classes put out a lot of damage - which makes more people play them (yay) but also makes them a little bs at times. |
I found l played Mercy, Lucio for support, Or Reinheart, Roadhog on offence.
I might do Mei or Pharah if I get bored. I like playing tracer, but I suck :-( I'm still learning the other characters so I have no opinions of them yet. |

Mercy's definitely the more traditional "Medic" role. Sym's more defence than support, given the set up time on her turrets, and the "barely there" shield buff. Zen needs work. He's got pinpoint accuracy on his jabs, but with the recent changes to his abilities (very fast drop off of orbs once the target goes outside Line of Sight), his lack of HP is detrimental. Jodi - Tracer's great at her role, but many people misunderstand what she's there for. She's a pest. She's there to rush in, hit the support/healers, and rewind out, distracting the entire team from the objective in the process. She's great at that role. Bastion definitely wreck shit up in public matches though. A coordinated strike will kill them (A Single grenade or snipe will ruin their day), but with pubs being what they are, most people are happy to go in single file, ideal targets for Bastion to mow down. I don't think anyone's OP. I certainly called a few heroes OP to begin with, but then learned how to counter them. Simply counterpick against an enemy Bastion/Torbjorn and you'll be fine. |
Even as a traditional medic, Mercy is great. Compared to TF2 medic for instance, her leap makes her way more mobile, her dmg buff can be really good if used well (like with Pharah or Soldier ulti or with Bastion) and her Resurrection is a very cool ulti.
Lucio speed buff and passive heal is good, and actually throws out quite a bit of dmg. Good to play on KOTH maps. Sym is awesome on defence, especially point A and getting a teleporter up. I find Zen an easy target, particularly when playing Soldier 76. His lack of health makes him a quick kill. |
+1 for Mercy. Only hero I played during the beta. Very enjoyable class to play.
Still torn whether to pick this up - $39.99USD ($58NZD) isn't bad TBH. |
I use Lucio's speed buff and ramp it up special to get the team to the capture point _fast_ on initial spawn. Good when you have a tank or two.
Find Mercy "fly to person" special awesome when you can get line of sight from near the spawn, get to the action _real quick_. However when you cant she is annoyingly slow. |
Live servers are up :D

Yep, 30-70 ping for me.
|
Same here, I think I've played exclusively on Aussie servers, I'm surprised they don't have a separate region for it. Nobody has been complaining about lag, which is pretty good. The usual latency issues with getting hit behind cover and so on, but it's nice and responsive.
Not looking forward to the hackers getting into this game though. The Arcade mode this week is ridiculous, but quite a lot of fun if you want a blat - nearly instantaneous abilities and your ulti charges faster than normal (or maybe that's a by-product of putting out a lot more DPS...) I'm enjoying it, glad I picked it up after the closed/open betas though. Madman#12756 if you want to add me. |
I'm amazed that it's still possible to do something fun and innovative in the FPS genre.
