NZ Labour Party slips deeper and deeper into paranoid crazymode

Shit's getting weird. Examples:

Clare Curran makes a couple of posts (first, second)on the Labour blog basically saying "Fuck the fucking Greens, those cunts are stealing left-leaning voters and those votes belong to Labour BY RIGHT." Read the comments left by readers, they're gold.

Trevor Mallard makes a post attacking an Otago Uni academic, Dr Bryce Edwards, for daring to criticise Labour. Mallard then goes the full retard by accusing Edwards of being a media plant on the payroll of Bill English, because Edwards's newsletter "NZ Politics Daily" accepted sponsorship from a market research company that was owned by a guy who had done work for the National Party which was exactly the same as being paid by Parliamentary Services which was exactly the same as being paid by Bill English himself. The fact that the newsletter was also sponsored by the PSA union was actually just a smokescreen to cover up the conspiracy. Comments pointing that this is kinda crazy are deleted and the posters banned.

Clare Curran then takes retard to a whole new level by labelling rightwing blogger Cameron "Whaleoil" Slater as part of the conspiracy (somehow), accusing him of secretly working with David "Kiwiblog" Farrar, NBR columnist Matthew Hooton, the Young Nationals, and (this is a verbatim quote) "the non-Labour left" to attack Labour.

No shit, she said "the non-Labour left". So there's an evil conspiracy against Labour being masterminded by the National Party, right-leaning private citizens, and everyone on the left who isn't part of Labour. That's a pretty big conspiracy.

Now I see Labour List MP Darien Fenton is calling for a boycott of Mad Butcher stores because Peter "Mad Butcher" Leitch has said he likes John Key. Well he would of course, given that the Mad Butcher has always been a polo-playing millionaire North Shore playboy who was born rich and has never done an honest day's work. Dude's probably never set foot in the hood or watched a game of league in his life. So fuck him for saying he likes John Key.

.
.
.

Seriously, have the Labour MPs lost their fucking minds?

Jodi 27th September 2011 14:00

Yes. Yes they have.

Saladin 27th September 2011 14:11

Hmm, Fenton hasn't got with the times and enabled subscriptions.. No way I'm friending a politician! Got a screenshot?

Look, I can't say for others, but I've heard Bryce Edwards' interview on RNZ Checkpoint last night, and I thought he slipped into a bit of political horse racing commentary, with little evidence to back up his various assertions, e.g. labour doing so and so because they want to appear such and such.

Is he a National plant? I have no idea, but what he said wasn't worthy of an academic.

Ab 27th September 2011 15:12

I subscribe to the newsletter - it's a great summary of NZ politics for someone out of the country.

http://liberation.typepad.com/

Did I say great summary? I meant part of an anti-Labour conspiracy by a class traitor.

doppelgänger of someone 27th September 2011 15:31

I got sick of politicians and commentators of every shades trying to be smartasses and play politics like a game of chess. It is like a perpetual flaming and trolling machine.

Clare Curran - doesn't have one.

Trevor Mallard - probably, he has a history of it.

Darien Fenton - Got a bit over passionate and calling for a boycott is stupid. But he has a point, the low income folk the MB 'champions' are financially worse off under National.

Ab 27th September 2011 16:02

Darien Fenton is a she. And she wasn't saying anything about people on low incomes, she was saying how she's never going near Leitch again for being a "sycophant" who "sucks up to John Key" and "supports Tories".

This is The Mad Butcher she's talking about. One of the biggest charity fundraisers in the whole fucking country.

Lost. Their. Fucking. Minds.

crocos 27th September 2011 16:38

The problem with Labour is they have no competent people that are also leaders.

The loud ones are incompetent muppets, and pretty much everyone else are nobodies that may or may not be competent, but no one will ever know as they couldn't manage their way out of a wet paper bag, let alone reign in the likes of Curran, Mallard, Goff et al.

I'm sad to say at the moment I'd rather vote for the Greens than Labour... Hell, even the Maori Party is looking better than Labour.

CCS 27th September 2011 18:04

Why do you have to vote for anyone on the left? If you can't live with voting National because you consider yourself a lefty but realise Labour are incompetent... why not just not vote at all? I mean, voting for the Greens or Maori, you may as well just piss on your own shoes. They're equally good.

Lightspeed 27th September 2011 18:20

Well, to keep left leaning parties viable for future elections, for one.

I'm not particularly phased that Labour aren't doing shit right now, I'm hoping it means voters who don't vote National shift further towards the hippie end of the political continuum.

Voting for them now can't keep them viable for future elections when they're not viable now.

I don't think I want to know your reasoning behind that one. It's probably dickish.

I don't want to vote for anyone on the left.

Yet Act is as bad as Labour, and I'm traditionally a National voter... but the Nats are fiscally incompetent going off the Budget and the policies they've been implementing, not to mention the sheer retarded fuckwitery of some of the blatent lies they've been telling.

ZoSo 28th September 2011 01:31

Hating on the butch while he has cancer and a bung knee, plus the weight of the CHCH people in need on him (which is clearly affecting him) and now the Warriors GF. Wow. What a petty and pathetic woman to put her brain fart out there in the public. Doesn't this clown realise she actually needs votes and he doesn't really need the cash?
Plus he sold the damn thing and is only brand manager, so it's not coming out of his pocket. Does she want him let go or something due to sales losses? wtf?
Only the cronies are going to back her on this one and the rest are going to see it for what it is.

Ab 28th September 2011 02:25

She doesn't care about votes. She's Labour's candidate in Helensville (current representative: Key, John). Fenton will not got elected.

After being rejected in a landslide by the voters of her electorate, she may still get a seat in Parliament thanks to MMP and Fenton's position on the Labour List - ranked 18, she will get in if Labour secures a party vote any higher than 24%. As a former National Secretary of the Service & Food Workers Union, former vice president of the Council of Trade Unions, and vice president of the Labour Party Union Affiliates Council, she gets pushed to the front of the line in order to guarantee Labour support from the union movement.

All parties in NZ, except for perhaps Act, are left parties if you use as a benchmark what an outside observer would note.

This left bias is a necessity to get elected in NZ. Until very recently NZ was an extremely socialist society and many of those who perpetuated that paradigm of barely three decades ago still get to vote although they are now rapidly exiting the population.

Until gen X transition to being the old people in NZ society the necessity to be moderate with a socialist bias is going to remain for parties that want to get elected. The challenge will be to find a balance that the moderate left and sensible right can tolerate. Right now National are in that spot. labour on the other hand doesn't seem to have noticed that every generation since the boomers hates what they stand for and so are fucked given they are attempting to return to a value set that virtually nobody wants anymore.

So, you're gonna have to vote National because it's the only sensible choice. National are what they have to be to get elected and stay elected. As the damn boomers die of they can move right a bit.

This is where I'm at for this election, so I'll be placing my first-ever protest votes. Animals First looks pretty good.

You're suggesting I vote for a bunch of known liers that are busy implementing policies to increase the wage-gap and are busy reducing the standard of living for the lower economic groups? Eh. Bring back the Bill and Ben party IMO.

No, I'm suggesting that you vote for National.

If you think that voting National would do as you're suggesting then do two things: First, vote National. Second, wake up and look at what is really happening.

Oh yeah. A protest vote. That seems highly useful. I'm sure that after the election the major parties will look at the vote count and say "Look at all these votes for Animals First! They must be protest votes! Look what we've done! How could we have been so foolish?!"
"No wait... I think those are serious votes. I think those are the votes of lunatics."
"Yeah, you're right. Let's go back to raping the country."

I might have voted for the pirate party if they weren't called the pirate party.

Known rightwing nutjob Chris Trotter comments on Labour craziness, makes comparison with the viral vid of John Key with students at Canty.

Surely you have an obligation to moderate your expectations towards something more realistic then?

Macca@Work 28th September 2011 19:39

"Until gen X transition to being the old people in NZ society the necessity to be moderate with a socialist bias is going to remain for parties that want to get elected. "

I disagree. In the last election,it wasn't old geezers waving "VOTE FOR LABOUR" banners over the moterway bridges. It was uni students who wanted more student loan money so they could keep buying drugs, booze, stereos and that big OE they have been dreaming of.The median age would have been low twenties.
Most gen x people are sorted by now and either living off thier investments and retirement fund or looking at doing that in the near future.Your assumption that gen x is mainly socialist doesn't make sense.

In a later post to my original I commented on this situation. I thought the phenomena of the transition from many people voting left to a more sensible outcome as they age was understood and so I excluded covering this scenario from my original post since it's not polite to require the sucking of eggs. Hell I voted for labour when I was a uni student.

As the boomers die and the interface with their subsequent generation do the proportion of mature adult voters (lets call these people 35+) who will stomach voting for 1970s style labour (where that party is now heading again) will significantly diminish; not that there is really many such people left anyway.

I think ultra-left parties like mana and green will survive though since they appeal to the unsuccessful, unfortunate, and uneducated/able. And sadly there will always be five to ten percent of such people in any population.
