I have some outstanding fines with the police, now they seized a car, without notifying me... the problem is, they seized a car that I don't own. The car is under someone elses name, is that even possible? They decided to write that I have an expired rego as well (they probably throw away my new rego, and used my old ones to display since i stack the old ones behind the new one), added another $500 worth of fines just for the hell of it as well.

The question is, can I just go up to the courts and say "look, you got the wrong car, give it back"?

Go to the courts and talk to a solicitor there (THEY ARE FREE!!!) and he'll give u the finer points :)

Yup as ur legal gaurdians they are your financial(sp) supporters, if u can't pay for something (for one reason or another) and ur parents don't pay, if u don't have anything to repo, they'll go for the next best thing, Your parents.

I would assume that if you're over 18 that your parents are not eligible for your actions. So i would also assume, if that was the case, you could get that car back no problems...

dont worry about the rego while they may have taken the sticker the ltsa will have a record of the car being registered so they can shove that fine. and no they dont have the right to impound a car that isent yours or a garentor or your debt.

There is no such thing as a fine for not having a rego, it is always for "not displaying" a rego.

Oh btw my mother said she'll help me pay the fine, she said not much point fighting it off coz I'll still end up paying it sometime down the track anyway. And she has a feeling (just a feeling) that we'll get discriminated in court anyway since we're a minority race here. She does have a point.

To "get her car back" she has to go to the courts, file a report saying "look guys you took the wrong car", then they take the file before the judge then they decide, too much hassle says mommy.

And Jenza, I got a fine because the roads in NZ is way too shit, my MR2's ass end stepped out, lucky I have learnt to control my car therefore I did not end up stackpile the traffic lights, ok now? And all I got is a lousy fine. At $200 / year rego I would expect no unexpected portholes around the streets, mmmmmmmmmkay?

W3rd! I clipped my car on a gate I was maneuvering around, left a nice dent. Now do you hear me saying "oh it was the gates fault, someone made a shitty gate and it was like... it was all in the carpark". HELL NO! a pot hole can affect how you control your car.
so can misaligned curves, and even incorrect signage.
thats why the potholes are continually being fixed, and some corners straightened.

The car is under one of my parents car, although I paid a good percentage of the car and also drive it most of the time.

Never said anything about not to be able to afford it. Never said a thing about no money ya-da-ya-da. Just don't wanna pay the govt, that's another can of worms that I'll leave it till another day to open. I'm sure there is quite a few people who has money but don't wanna pay it to the govt too.

200 dollas is NOTHING i've payed over a grand worth in fines this year.
