PBTech Penrose gets a big AVOID from me. I've been trying to work with them to get a coolermaster case part (they're the NZ distributor) for three months now. They never phone me back. Everyone I talk to gives me different answers, and finally when I thought we were getting somewhere they turn around and try to charge me $75 for a US$10 part they told me would be free (to make up for the amount of time it took to get it organised). I'd rather pay the same for that part off Ebay than deal with PBTech again.

Bunch of incompetent shitlords the lot of them.

Stalk3r 18th June 2012 14:56

what part is it?/

A Corpse 18th June 2012 16:01

One of these. It's OK, got someone buying one in the US and they're gonna forward it to me. Hopefully. o.O

Stalk3r 18th June 2012 16:09

lemme know if you dont end up getting one

A new service launched by PostShop that makes it easier to buy products from the US. Basically it gives you a US address to use when purchasing from the US so that you can buy from on-line outlets that only deliver to US addresses.

I've already had a quick compare between Newegg.com/pricespy.co.nz and, at present exchange rates (NZ$1=US$0.82), can save about ~$100 for a i7 3930k hex core.

Brutus 13th September 2012 13:49

According to my rough maths it will cost you about $50 more by the time you account for the Duty and GST on it as its over the $400 threshold.

Just saying.

Should send your computery business Stalk3r's way. Support the little guy (Ok, he's actually pretty big but you get the idea).

He's a G.C.

Stalk3r 13th September 2012 14:10

d'awwwwwww

CCS 13th September 2012 14:29

Yeah truth, he's a good guy. He molested me once but he used lube so it wasn't too bad and actually just a little bit enjoyable.

Sad to see Stalk3r/Compulink seems to have gone under. Does anyone keep in touch with him and knows how he's doing?

Caesar 12th June 2016 16:46

Has anyone one brought any hardware from Newegg.com since they started shipping to NZ?

Just looking at the prices of the 1080 GPUs, their about 400 bucks cheaper than over here, but I'm guessing there's shipping to be added to that.

Shipping + GST + Customs Clearance = maybe $100 cheaper at end of the day.

Might still be worth it (importing), got an Asus Strix GTX 1080 OC from Dove at dealer rates which finally turned up today, but was still $$$.

Eve does look nice on it though:

I see un-Expert Infotech are (unfortunately) still in business. Makes me ask - how?

Bump.

Assuming PP and Ascent are still ace. Anyone know who we deal with in Auckland for physical stores?

DrTiTus 17th January 2017 00:49

PB Tech is my GOTO in Auckland.

PB Tech, PlayTech and ComputerLounge.

YMMV with PlayTech - experience seems to depend on who you talk to there.

PB Tech as a whole business get a big avoid from me, they are overpriced on many items, and they randomly change the courier price at the checkout when buying online.

YMMV but I will never deal with them again.

Caesar 18th January 2017 23:33

I know of a few people that don't like PBTech actually.

I recently priced up some upgrade bits for my rig and I compared their prices to Ascents and although some stuff was cheaper some was dearer as well so it balanced out to be almost even but I ended up going with Ascent because its free courier and I've been using them for over a decade anyway.
