News is breaking in Japan this afternoon that Nintendo 3DS will indeed have a second Analog Stick.

There are several unconfirmed reports over the last few weeks, but this photo of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu confirms the rumour to be fact:

This second 'circle pad' is goes hand-in-hand with the reveal of a port of the Wii's Monster Hunter Tri for the Nintendo 3DS called 'Monster Hunter tri-3G'. A second circle pad, Nintendo's analogue stick equivalent, would be a boon for this game in particular.

There's not yet any additional detail (unless you speak Japanese? if so, let us know!) about what else the device might contain - it seems far, far too large to simply be a circle pad. Maybe there's a battery in there too?

The rumoured attachment got people wondering whether there will ultimately be a "3DS lite" that has a second circle pad built-in to the base unit. Today's unveiling would seem to give that second rumour even greater credence.

There's no official word from Nintendo - yet - so we have no idea if the attachment or the game will make it outside of Japan. Stay tuned for more details as they come to hand!

I actually really regret buying a 3DS now. This peripheral better be free.

I think Nintendo have peaked with the success of the Wii and are now riding the wave of arrogance towards another Virtual Boy all over again.
