Mass Effect(PC)

Played about 2 hours of it today.. I'm not much of a RPG player, but this game seems pretty cool

gfx are good
gameplay is fine
there's a lot of detail, they're quite ambitious here I feel, I'm quite overwhelmed tbh

this might be the RPG to see me through for the next wee while

anyone else given it a blat?

Prepare to be pissed off shortly.

Just have to wait until Friday.

I have been quite enjoying it. Some of the levels are a little sparse - chunks of the Citadel for instance where they have a bit of fetch and carry questing going on seem like empty space for the sake of it. Like the silly corridor between the Wards and the Presidium which I completely missed because I went through the C-Sec Academy entrance to the Wards. Took me an age to find that last Keeper in there as a result.

Also the Planets do get a little samey after a while for the sidequest stuff.

But the main quest is a whole lot of fun. Gone as a soldier for the first play through - I suspect a tech/biotic would initially get their arse handed to them without some good support gear. So maybe on the second.run through where you get to keep the equipment you have found...

You guys have any issues with the copy protection?

No issues here as far as I am aware. The game proper is a little bit crashy - it is worth quick saving on a regular basis but otherwise it is fine.

Fred 16th June 2008 15:45

Finished it last night. Excellent story with a nice conclusion that leaves me looking forward to the next in the series.

Guh .. I just heard that they're using the same scheme that Bioshock did, but they're not crediting you back an activation when you uninstall.

Bunch of fucking cunts.

got this today, graphics is pretty, but gameplay is a bit meh. I feel like I have played this game before, OH THAT'S RIGHT IT WAS CALLED KOTOR. Spectre = Jedi; Council = Council, background story cut-and-pasted from pulp sci-fi.

P.S. never buy retail. I got this over ebay for about $50, when the cheapest retails for $80 (JB Hi-Fi).

Helious 26th June 2008 01:19

I never played KOTOR but I didn't think of Starwars the whole time

;p

I just finished mass effect, tried to do all missions etc, had a ton of fun, fist game I have played right through since HL2 ep1!

I recomend!

Have to admit the driving around in the buggy thing got a bit tedious and over very similar looking terrain.

I was about to try and rip you a new-one and tell you you're fulla shit, then I realised you're actually right.

Different feel - a little more "Max Payne" than KOTOR, not as blatantly turn-based, but in the character management & switching, the plot outline (if not details) and NPC parallels... Hmm.

Still, I liked KOTOR (despite being prone to crashing), liking this too.

You can TRY :D

Finished this last night, ending is epic/space operatic enough to warrant a second play.

The spiritual successor to System Shock 2 isn't Bioshock, it is Mass Effect on PC

I'm on another playthru, this game is my Game of the Year.

I know when it was out in 360 last year, they say the combat is clunky. In PC there is no such problem. Combat gameplay is just one level down from Gears of War. It is THAT awesome, especially after you get spectre gears.

The RPG elements in reflection become even better: you get to level up and make hard choices one major NPC WILL die, you choose who, while shooting your way to the end. If the game is carried only by the RPG elements, I would say don't bother and play KOTOR. Instead on PC, it got the best mix of action and RPG since System Shock 2. It is OMG THAT awesome.

got this on the weekend for 5 USD on steam.

thoroughly enjoying it. Great animation, tactics and dialogue except the resolution , and the blurry "fantastic graphics" are a bit distracting. they went overkill on the blur
