I assume the iPhone will work on the VF network if you import one-over?
|
Don't bother. There's a lot required in the way of back-end services to get all the flashy bits working properly.
You're better off waiting for Vodafone to offer them, or get something else like a Nokia N95. |
I'm gonna get one. Looks pretty damn awesome.

AT&T outlines pricing plans for iPhone launch in US
Natalie Apostolou AT&T has finally outlined pricing plans for this week's iPhone launch in the US, offering a stiff $59.99 monthly tariff for 450 minutes as its cheapest option. Subscribers will also have the option of paying $79.99 for 900 minutes or $99.99 for 1,350 minutes per month. The two-year contracts include 200 SMS texts, unlimited data access, visual voicemail and unlimited calls to other AT&T mobiles. Subscribers will also be able to roll over minutes each month. The iPhone goes on sale Friday evening in the US. But analysts are mixed over its projected success despite an unprecedented level of mainstream hype for a handset. The New York Post trashed the unit in the first review to hit national media, warning potential subscribers it doesn't offer bang for the buck. That's just for the US. GL for pricing in nz _b |
I'd rubbed my penis at those prices. Fuck thats pretty wicked.
|
that's also America. quadruple it here for accurate representation.

those are contract prices. phone prices in the US are heavily subsidized if you sign up to a contract.

Can people please kill these apple fanatically loserfaces? Quote:

Yeah it looks pretty, and kudos to apple for leading phone tech in a new direction, but damn it's missing some pretty basic stuff for your average cell phone user,
* No 3G (yet... in the US anyway) * No MMS messages * No music as a ringtone (even a raw mp3) * No games * No video recording * No voice dialing * No cut/copy/paste ability for text * No expandable storage * No removable battery * No direct iTunes access over wifi * No flash support for the web browser Bar the last two, my nokia does all the rest. Hopefully v2 for the rest of the planet addresses lots of the above... |

Just a quick note for people that keep pulling out the no 3G card. America doesn't have a 3G network so having it on this version of the iPhone would have been a waste of time.
|
Yeah machine, less than 1% or something like that. So yeah, that would have been silly.
Also the current iphone won't work here, it uses EDGE for data which I believe neither Vodafone nor Telecom support. Telecom may well roll it out on their new GSM network, that's the kind of backward stuff they like to do. Expect a 3G rollout here / elsewhere within 12 months imo. Sounds like it would frustrate me tbh - small keypads annoy the shit out of me, i can't even imagine how annoying a tiny keyboard that could be any fucking size they wanted, thanks to its virtual nature, yet isn't would be. Also, how strange are those prices; unlimited broadband, limited minutes? That's ass backwards, surely. |
Apple NZ may come up with some solution surely! In the eman time I guess people in NZ will have to do with blackberry's or Fancy Sony Walkman phones

Is it just me, or does this guy look a bit like Jack Black? |
I think so too!

I think the iphone is a piece of shit, but this might interest people who plan to buy one.
http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/04/f...bile-vodafone/ edit: plan to buy one - without 'underground hackers' assistance (i just read that herald article now). |
There's no point buying an iPhone for use in NZ until it's officially supported here, otherwise you're just paying big bucks for a whole lot of features that won't work. Even your voicemail will be fucked up as they've had Cingular re-write their voicemail back end to support the way the iPhone uses it (touch the message you want to listen to).
Just wait until Vodafone pick it up. [edit] - oh I just got what p01s0n is on about ... nm. |
But... will it blend?
|
|
Wow the herald is really going to town on iphone bashing articles.
iPhone Killer is such a lol phrase lets hope they do better than all of those iPod killers. |

Well Maddox review is in and he says it eats shit. Nokia E70 ftw? Anyone in the US had a go one of these yet? |
Problem is that the N70 has bugs up the wazoo...
|
Did you mean to say the E70 or are you actually talking about the wrong phone? :)
|
I've had a phone where I could ssh into my servers and restart them if needed for over 2 years. I've only ever done it once, and really that was just because I could. I'd happily trade that for a non-shit ui.
|
I'm gonna keep an eye on the OpenMoko thing.. assuming it hasn't gone all tits up by then, the 2nd or 3rd gen stuff (once the bugs are out, more features etc) from them might be worth getting
