Looking for approaches for keeping in touch with a disparate network post tw/fb/inst. Anyone using a method they'd recommend?

In my case its mostly about a passive way of keeping in the loop with projects / minor status updates. Text/images/links repository etc.

My family uses Slack.

Looking at Mastodon - not so much for the client, but that is uses activitypub as a networking protocol meaning in theory*** someone could sign up with the app tw/inst/fb clone of their choice, on the host of their choice and share data. Testing seems positive. Might be other approaches though.
