kids these days I don't even

So you're a scared 17 year old female, walking alone at night, and you're being followed. You've got a phone but it's almost out of charge.

Do you:

a) call police for help, or

b) make a post to Facebook about it

I don't know what the fuck you aussie bastards are teaching your kids these days, but when I was a kid we had Constable Keith and Sniff. Our school got a visit from Constable Keith who told us all about how to dial 111 and all that safety shit and he even let a kid put on the handcuffs.

I guess there's no community constable type visiting the schools these days and telling children to pull their bloody nose out of their Facespace when they cross the road and call the bloody police on that telephone thing if they're in danger.

Look at that fucken dog. You'd swear it was alive! Nowdays, kids are just taught to say FTP to cops.

Quicker to post on facebook, uses less battery and good chance someone will call cops for you when your battery dies.

Just FYI, when my phone's on 1%, I can't make a call before it shuts down.

And that's an iPhone, so like, if that can't do it, nothing can.

post to nzgames. loads quicker.

I can understand not having enough battery to call police but that facebook post doesn't seem urgent or descriptive enough to me.

Well if she survives and leaves intensive care I'm sure someone will ask her why.

Mental note for when I eventually give my kids smart phones: block use of any non-essentials apps when battery drops below 5%.

My first thought is "would it have made a difference if she had called 911 even if she had good battery life left?".
When seconds count the police are only minutes away!

BoyWonder 24th April 2014 19:11

That was my first thought as well... but when your kids are in danger you don't exactly want to give cynical advice.
