WAR gets official Oceania servers

:D

Baal 17th May 2008 14:13

K. I hate to say it but, that's more than Blizzard have ever done.

fobski 17th May 2008 16:50

agreed

Mos 17th May 2008 17:10

cool

Ard Righ 17th May 2008 22:36

The word is they'll be hosted by Internode, more details are scarce. But that's a hell of a lot better connection for PvP than playing US West Coast or US Central (more likely) _b

TB 17th May 2008 23:10

When you consider how crap general game support is for Nz and Ozy having an MMO supported down here is just crazy.

Signing a business contract to even get the server in the first place would cover all of that. This is big business money we're talking about, not an ISP just throwing up some freebies for good will.

Sure but paying for such a large setup down here isnt exactly cheap.

Well, I am sure they will get their money back :)

Internode were the ones pushing to make this happen, so clearly they saw benefit to it.

Internode will just provide the hosting space and cabling, with ocassional OS support I imagine, it will all be maintained as part of the bigger cluster from home base. Pity im not overly impressed with the game atm. althoguh lag is a big part of that, feels like playing VQ on 400 ping

Trigga*happY 20th May 2008 10:43

I'll probaby still play US servers anyhow. Most of my friends from DAOC and WOW are all US based, and I'll want to join with them.

Would be nice to see some form of low latency clustering occur instead, but don't think it would be financially possible :(

Lag as in ping response times, or combination of FPS and ping response times?

The US servers are hosted in Central US AFAIK, so they will be a worse connection than general WoW servers on the US West Coast.

JP 21st May 2008 10:38

I cant wait till they release the open beta so I can tell if i'm switching to this game or not. Aus based servers will be real nice, but now that I use wowtunnel my ping in WoW is fine anyway really. Kinda fucked up that almost half our latency is due to blizz or something in America.

Ard Righ 30th May 2008 14:31

pre-order packs available from EB Games, Gamesman and GP Store.

We get the Australian version of the CE - http://www.warhammeronline.com/aus_ce_preorder/

xin 30th May 2008 15:02

Tempted to pre-order.

But I feel guilty after just buying Age of Conan and not really enjoying it (so far).

Ard Righ 30th May 2008 15:50

Correction, NZ gets it's own CE preorder page!
http://www.warhammeronline.com/nz_ce_preorder/

I actually have about 3 pre-orders for the CE going - 1 from EB Games (got the nice little box), 1 from Gamesman waiting confirmation they're getting the pre-order packs etc. And 1 from Amazon (to ensure I got one before the others were confirmed).

So I'll have both the Amazon pre-order items and NZ pre-order items. I can farm two of them off later I guess.

New article on IGN, with a new video showing some combat and some of the (still yet to be finished) graphics

I like the way the quest system takes into account things you've already done. Sucks in WoW when you come across a named and kill it, then later on get a quest to kill that same named and you have to do it again.

Apparently in Warhammer it remembers that you've already done it and the quest will be instantly complete.

Ard Righ 22nd June 2008 11:59

Yeah that's one of the better things about the ToK, it remembers your actions as a player history, so killing named people will be an entry which quests can then check back against :)

Mos 23rd June 2008 12:35

that's a nice function.

JP 23rd June 2008 13:02

That is pretty awesome. Though would probably mean, later on optimizing leveling paths will have a monumental effect on how fast you level. As you can go to one area, clear all objectives you'll get for that area and move on to the next. Rather than having to run back and forth to find out what you need to do.

So. They're cutting out 4 careers, and cutting the major cities down to two (Altdorf, human capital, and Inevitable City, Chaos).

I'm sure this has upset a lot of people. But to me, to be honest, the reduction in classes sounds like good news. After seeing the share amount of classes they had, it seemed like it'd be a ridiculous task to keep the game balanced. Blizzard have been maintaining wow for 3 years now, and still can't keep 8? classes balanced. And those classes are all fairly straight forward and available to both sides, nothing like the squig herder and that kinda crazy shit.

I kinda wish they had some kind of druid/shaman type class though, would make it a fuckload easier to convince my girlfriend to swap from wow to this. Those are the only classes she touches in WoW.

Epox 14th July 2008 19:27

No real biggy it's only Choppa (Greenskin)Hammerer (Dwarf)Blackguard (Dark Elf)Knight of the Blazing Sun (Empire) that are going Chaos FTW right? Anyways back to waiting for the open beta......

Warlock
Mage
Hunter
Shaman
Paladin
Rogue
Priest
Warrior
Druid

So, 9 with one more coming.

Biggest problem with WoW is that some idiots tried to turn a RPG into a FPS

They do have a shaman class.

I'm sure one of the Chaos classes is a semi-healer, buffbot, dotter type

If you scroll down there's some E3 interviews about War - pretty interesting stuff, like how the armor dye system mirrors the paint range from GW which is a cute touch :) Also how the endgame is purely RvR based with no PvE raiding at all; which makes sense I guess, no reason for Order and Destruction to pause their bitter struggle to go off and kill some giant elemental in a cave ;)

Though you could count the sacking of the oponents city and killing their king as a PvE raid, you just have to worry about the other players defending him as well :)

Ard Righ 23rd July 2008 00:49

Check your beta accounts! You might see one of these...

There's always some PvE component, even in WoW battlegrounds as far as I know, you have to hold locations, not just kill enemy players.

DAoC had NPC keep lords that had to be killed to take the keep, but they were never the challenge, just the button you had to get to to win, for want of a better analogy.

Saladin 23rd July 2008 12:31

I've been in beta for about a week, NDA should be coming down before the end of August from what they said at E3 with Open Beta around the same time.

ZoSo 23rd July 2008 13:39

End of August? Lame.
