Old school PC gamers, what were you favourite less well known DOS/Win3x games?
For me:
DOS: Crystal Caves Descent Dune Jill of the Jungle Loom One Must Fall 2097 Terminal Velocity Zone 66 Win3x: The Incredible Machine Comix Zone Fury 3D |
I have a major blank when it comes to this period it feels like I jumped from Amiga to Win95/Consoles. But I remember playing Descent, Blood (Multiplayer) that was a blast.
Ecstatica was a great horror game where the characters were made out of ovals. Ultima Underworld. |
Hexen (and even more Hexen II) was a blast multiplayer
Descent taught me the blessings of a mouse over HOTAS for certain games |
Like FE, I was an Amiga guy for most of the DOS era, especially for games. Most of my DOS gaming was the big-name stuff. DOOM and DOOM2, X-Wing and TIE Fighter, Descent, Duke 3D. The “niche-est” game I remember fondly from that era is probably Lemmings?

What, not Liero? :p

I think I had Descent, Civilization and Dune 2 on the Win3.1 machine my uncle left us when he went travelling. There was Dune as well, but I think it was some copy protection but I didn't know where the manual was. So not exactly less well known.
I never really figured out how to use the OS. Somehow I figured out how to exit to DOS and find the game folders to run the exe. I must have installed new games at some point because I remember fiddling with IRQs. It felt like by the time I actually understood them the OS handled it all. |
