I was looking at this:

http://supercheappc.biz/site/product...roducts_id=239

Random Guy 5th December 2005 15:18

But what make and model of machine is it going into?

See Akane's experience above, for one... I've had similar myself. Laptop RAM can be awkward enough as it is. Pay a little more and go to somewhere where they're not arrogant little ripoff merchants.

I swore after my experience that I'd never go near the place again - no matter how cheap the stuff might be.

Sorry, an Asus Z8100L.

Random Guy 5th December 2005 16:09

Yea, that takes generic stuff - same as my A4K

I went with this: http://www.ascent.co.nz/ProductSpeci...?itemID=336453

Works a charm. A bit more expensive than the cheapo stuff but its got a lifetime warranty. BTW I don't care what you buy or where from, the Kingston part number is KVR333X64SC25/512 - any reseller can get it from Ingram Micro.

Morningstar also sell a generic module for these notebooks, ask any reseller for R0310045 - should be about $200 + GST

Renaissance do their own RAM for these too, ask for NAS152 ~$165 + GST

The usual addages applied - buyer beware and you get what you pay for.

The Edge 5th December 2005 16:10

Hmm, not bad. A little more than I was looking at spending, but just under $100 is pretty reasonable. And I have to say, my experience with Ascent in the past has been very good. I may just get it from you guys instead then ;)

By the way...if it's faulty for whatever reason, how does one go about returning it? Note, I have never had a problem with anything from Ascent, just wondering how you guys do your returns, etc.

Random Guy 5th December 2005 16:16

I just checked with our RA girl - Kingston usually forward replace. Basically you give us a holler if you have any issues, we look the order up and then organise a replacement. When that arrives and you've tested it you send the bung one back. Simple

You don't need a receipt either haha (see http://www.nzgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70417)

Also worth noting - if you say, moved to Cuba, you can log an RA via the Kingston intl website and get a replacement via your nearest dealer.

Link: https://www.ec.kingston.com/web_rma/default.asp
(you can ignore the disclaimer, its BS. We RA stuff bought all over the world)

The Edge 5th December 2005 16:23

Sweet, I'll place it for delivery next Monday, unless they drop it off without a signature?

Random Guy 5th December 2005 16:25

Nope, someone needs to be there - NZ Couriers :P

video editing pc

ok, too many sites to look at, but after some intense saving i have $3,000 to spend on a computer specifically for video editing. Pretty hard choosing and starting from scratch with so much to choose from. Not interested in gaming as much, just would like to get the best possible PC for video editing, so loads of space, loads of ram and really fast, good software would be ideal aswell. Been to a few sites to look at the packages but no real justice so far.

Any takers?

Phleep 10th October 2006 20:13

I just bought components from:

www.tradepc.co.nz
www.pp.co.nz
www.clcomputer.co.nz
www.tastech.co.nz

All components came within 2 days of ordering except a case from tradepc which took 3 days.

Will post again if any probs.

ZCOM - you suck

ZCom Computers (Akld) are complete cunts. Tried to get a replacement shuttlemb from them. Rang two days ago and spoke to someone for whom English was a first language - he was helpful and suggested that they could help me but the chap I needed to speak to was away from his desk and he would get back to me. Two days later I rang them, got someone with a heavy accent who basically said - " we no sell you, we no support you". I don't think I would have been so angry if they had the decency to call back that day with a " Sorry we choose only support systems we initially sold".

ie we don't want your money. So FUCK OFF ZCOM, I will make sure that I fail to recommend you to anybody.

Additionally, while the shuttles are cool systems, the aftermarket support is not good. I love my Shuttles but would never buy another one

A Corpse 19th October 2006 12:39

Aren't ZCOM a wholesale outfit? Do you have an account with them?

Stalk3r 19th October 2006 12:44

ZCom are indeed a wholesale company who avoid dealing with the public as much as possible, they do have sister company/s that are public orientated though

and as much as they are a bunch of useless twats in their defence i think youll find you may have misinterpretted the way he spoke to you as agressive, they get this problem alot

Rocket 19th October 2006 13:45

what u think that being in new zealand, this new zealander misinterpreted the way he was spoke to on the phone? or is it that the worker doesnt understand how we speak in new zealand?

Trigger 19th October 2006 14:03

I think the dirty ass cracka honkey motherfucka Painty needs to settle the fuck down bitch
"we no sell you" means this nigga ass don't wanna sell to you aight?
now take your pasty ass somewhere else before this shit gets serious

Stalk3r 19th October 2006 14:04

the latter of the 2 options

to be honest most of the suppliers spend all day dealing with chinese people and so on so alot of them dont understand the tones that they are using can be interpretted as aggressive or standoffish

FLUCK JOO CLUNT

Painty 19th October 2006 16:01

firstly let it be said I don't give a shit about the guy's nationality. I have Maori, Chinese and Japanese inlaws hell I think there are even some white fellas in there too

It was the service.
I specifically asked them "Do you deal with the general public, can you help me?"

Guy A says "yes we can help you - it's part of our service agreement with Shuttle- and will CALL YOU BACK"

they don't

I ring.

Guy B " we can't help you, we didnt sell it too you"

it is not

a) a warranty claim- I WANT TO GIVE THEM MY MONEY in exchange for goods
b) anything more than a standard retail transaction

They maintain a website which seems pitched at the general public.

Perhaps guy B shouldnt be answering phones if he doesnt understand spoken English too well. If I need to get a Chinese speaking mate to talk to them, then tell me.

1/10 for service (for answering the phones)

MadMax 22nd October 2006 03:50

dse has ink cartridges for my printer cheaper than ascent, even before my dse discount card or ascent's direct debit discount.

You should be more angry at the first guy, he gave you misinformation. Zcom is a wholesaler only, they do not deal with the public, if they did so they would lose all thier wholesale customers and that would be bad.

Zcom is one of our suppliers and they're absolute twats.

It's like trying to draw blood from a stone when dealing with them.

badassmofo 23rd January 2007 15:01

Gilrose Finance, Terrible. Use anyone except them. I'm going GE.

?>Superman 23rd January 2007 15:17

http://www.gilrose.co.nz/customer.htm They seem to boast incredible service :)

badassmofo 23rd January 2007 15:41

I boast that I'm good in bed...

Er... Nevermind.

I've just had a terrible time with them. But I should know better than to deal with loan sharks.

?>Superman 23rd January 2007 18:15

I'm not saying they are good, i'm just implying that they are full of shit.

Dodgy loan sharks :)

The Edge 23rd January 2007 19:28

Pacific Retail Finance, now owned by GE, have the most useless, slow customer service I've come across in a finance company. Hopefully their buyout by GE might see things improve.

eliot 23rd January 2007 19:44

Having dealt with both GE and PRF on their lonesome, I can't really complain about either of their customer service policies (or lack of). Both pretty good to deal with, although I found GE to be more personable.

cEvin 10th February 2007 12:03

PC Gear Dunedin: slow shipping, average communication, decent prices.

The Edge 19th February 2007 02:11

c1com.co.nz aka c1shoppingmall

Any good? They have a good price for some RAM I want. Saw them on Pricespy.

Waldo 19th February 2007 12:43

Ive used c1 before....my parts arrived within 2 days, thats about all i can say really...never had to deal with anyone apart from the website :)

Simon 19th February 2007 15:33

GE Money is the most hated finance company in Australia. Don't get your hopes up.
