I'm aware of that. Who the fuck saw Avatar for the storyline?

I did, on the basis that other Cameron films like Aliens and Terminator had decent storylines. I had some expectation of Avatar being in that league, and fuck was I mistaken. Cheesiest piece of shit ever.

ZoSo 4th January 2010 18:19

Possibly mentioned before, but who cares. Not 'great' movies but a good enough watch back to back. I liked the characters anyway. Off to scrounge up the 3rd.

Män som hatar kvinnor / The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1132620/

Flickan som lekte med elden / The Girl Who Played with Fire

Caesar 5th January 2010 04:00

I watched Paranormal Activity tonight.

Was very well done.
Worth a watch I reckon.

Word 5th January 2010 08:58

In London's underground there was a ad for a movie about Gangs in South america. It had a guy with a massive tattoo on his face. Can't remeber the name. This was maybe 4 months back

HELP!

watched these yesterday as well and enjoyed them both, I havent read the books so cant comment on how true it is to the source material. But given the movies are not hollywood blockbusters they have not been turned into trumped up love stories or anything.

Nightcrawler 5th January 2010 15:03

Up In The Air with George Clooney was actually pretty good

Hmm, I usually pay attention to the movie posters in the underground. Only ones I can remember on the tube featuring gangs recently have been Harry Brown, Mesrine - Death Instinct (aka Public Enemy No.1 - not the Johnny Depp film, the french one) and 1day. Maybe Bronson, too?

Any more information? Sure it was a movie, not a tv show like Ross Kemp etc?

Fuckin' keen to see Harry Brown! Heard good things about it.

Ah, got it

Sin Nombre - haven't watched it yet but one scene he feeds a person to his dog. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1127715/

'Good' with Viggo Mortensen about Nazi's or along those lines

Just watched 'Control' about Ian Curtis who sung for Joy division which is now New Order. '24 hour party people' was a interesting movie if your haven't seen it.

Going on a Clint Eastwood frenzey atm

herp 6th January 2010 03:17

Sin Nombre? That's funny, I was going to put that in my list but decided against it because the imdb plot didn't describe gangs and didn't have a picture of a face with a massive tattoo on the poster (had a picture of a girls face on a train in the lower 1/3rd of the poster).

lol.

I like this chart better, more accurate imo.

http://boxofficemojo.com/alltime/adj...yr=2010&p=.htm

In today's prices Gone With the Wind would have cracked nearly $1.5 billion domestically(US). While Avatar is only at $350 million domestic sales right now. Back in '39 tickets cost 23 cents, now they're $7.50. Imagine what the worldwide figure would be for GWTW if they had the figures?

Warrick 6th January 2010 14:30

Yeah, I perused that chart a week or so ago.. It's definitely interesting to take into consideration where things were at given their period in time.

Gone With The Wind, heh~ haven't seen it, I have it on Blu-Ray though.

I was asked to compile list of non mainstream or cult Horror films from the last 15 years for some friends of mine. So I thought I'd re-list them here. There may be a few double ups from previous recommendations.

All of these are must see films in my opinion.

Ginger Snaps *Werewolf/Coming of Age flick. Funny and wry... with more then a little gore

May *An odd outcast girl makes her own friend. Brilliant performace from Angela Bettis in this odd, and gripping horror/thriller

Dead End *Why you dont take a short cut through the backroads flick (no hillbillies or mutants in sight though

Shallow Ground *A boy is found wandering in the woods covered in blood... scaryness ensues

Dead Birds *Bank robbers in the old west take refuge in the worng abandoned house... scaries under the beds, and in the cornfields

Session 9 *Crew sent to clean out an abandoned mental hospital. the patients have gone but not the crazy.

Frailty *Dad thinks god tells him to kill demons. Dad is a whack job slaughtering innocent people.... or is he?

High Tension *french slasher gore fest

Inside *Crazy chick wants a baby. Only its someone elses and she hasnt given birth yet. French home invasion tensionfest

Martyrs *10 on th fucked upness scale. Extreme as only the franch can do

Dead Snow *Nazi Zombies vs Snowboarders. Need I say more?

Teeth *Hair isnt the only thing she's got down there.

Deadgirl *If you found a hot naked zombie chick chained to a bed in a abandoned basement what would you do? these boys bring necrophilia to a whole new level.

Frostbite *Vampirism via party pill... best idea ever. Horror comedy from out scandinavian friends

Cold Prey *Snowboarders choose the wrong place to whole up in this stalker/slasher from those ice loving scandinavians

Reeker *He'll gut you. He'll rip you to shreds.... oh and he smells REAL bad

Hatchet *80s slasher gore returns in this awesome retread of big scary mofo who really doesnt like pretty young people (or elderly couples for that matter).

Behind the Mask - the Rise of Leslie Vernon *Mock-amentery/slasher. Witty and self aware satire/homage. funfunfun

The Signal *3 intertwined stories about a crazy enducing broadcast that turn people into stab happy wackjobs

Monster Man *Cannibal mutants and moster trucks... whats not to love? (from the writer director or 100 Girls WTF?!?!?) a gore happy bloodbath

Jack Brooks - Monster Slayer *Origin story of Jack who turns out is pretty kickarse at monster slaying.

The Children *Creepy kids go a killin. creepily

Splinter *Ever been attacked by a monster made up of random human body parts? these guys have... and you can enjoy the carnage

Isolation *mutant calf goes apeshit and fucks people up. Why we shouldnt mess with cows.

Little Erin Merryweather *Oh look Little Red Riding Hood... oh wait no. Evil children are evil.

Outpost *More zombie Nazis + bunker with no way to escape... oh dear, big bad soldier boys are fucked now.

Broken *bad man does very bad things to a number of nice girls. blood? yep and by the gallon.

It looks bad. Very, very bad.

StN 11th January 2010 09:48

Just when I thought no one fucked with Wikus.

David 11th January 2010 10:57

Watched "The Boys are Back" last night, Clive Owen in it.
Very much a chick flick but has a couple of funny moments.

Nightcrawler 11th January 2010 11:54

Smokin' Aces 2 is complete rubbish. Looks like they couldn't afford a pyrotechnic to create explosions, so they just made them in mspaint or something

Pandorum was tight, need another similar movie to watch (seen Event Horizon already and all the Alien movies).

Any suggestions?

?>Superman 12th January 2010 00:04

Just watched Tsotsi, fucking awesome film, but the ending left me feeling a little unsatisfied tbh it feels like a lot is left up in the air for you to draw your own conclusions.

Still totally worth a watch, highly recommend it.

Ajax 12th January 2010 11:13

^^ Still on your African buzz eh?

I watched Pandorum the other night; thought it was a potentially interesting story, told in an laboured, formulaic way. Perhaps if they'd taken out the mutants and ninja horticulturalists it might have made a bit more sense. Actually the plot is very similar to one in a novel called 'Non-Stop' by Brian Aldiss.

Warrick 12th January 2010 11:17

I had similar feelings about Pandorum too, still a pretty good watch overall.

I been on it ever since Cry Freetown :D

I was looking up Last King of Scotland (that film about Idi Amin) and that's when I got reminded about Tsotsi, fucking great film.

From the start of Pandorum, i totally didn't expect it to bust out random tribal cannibal mutants. I'm just a sucker for my Sci-Fi horror, so it's a must watch for anyone who's into that sorta shit.

doppelgänger of someone 12th January 2010 22:58

Taken

Not that I agree with the methods, but it must be the #1 feel good movie of the decade.

anybody seen any good films from brazil as of late? loved city of god & man as well as elite squad. any more of these kinda gritty underground ish movies around worth watching?

buckies 13th January 2010 23:30

Fantastic Mr Fox by Wes Anderson was a good watch. I'd give it a 4/5.

herp 19th January 2010 03:33

Sherlock Holmes 6.5/10, maybe I just wasn't feelin it.

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell 4/10. Most scenes went out for far too long.
